Using Your Feet
Using your feet is one of the most important variables in order to create effortless power. The kinematic sequence starts with your feet. It then moves to your legs, then hips, then core and then to your lead arm which propels the club through. When you use your feet you start that motions. It also helps you sequence your motion. Getting the movements in the correct order. The backswing and downswing should start with the feet. Most people start these moves with your hands which is a big mistake.
- Grip the ground with your feet. When you grip the ground with your feet like they are hands you will engage the feet and lift the arches off the ground. This makes the feet active. The first move is a lateral shift to the trail foot and then we push off the back foot into the lead foot relatively quickly. It takes about 1 second to move fromt the trail foot to the lead foot.
- Feel pressure on the insteps. When the pressure gets to our outsteps of our feet, we loose balance and power. You want to load dup your trail foot so that you can push off of it. This creates more power. Also when you feel pressure on your insteps you tend ot move your hips better when you are trying to internally rotate. Try and play around with different feels in your feet in order to get your hips moving better.
- Prioritize balance. Balance is a major fundamental in golf. If you are out of balance you will mishit shots almost certainly. By removing your shoes you focus on balance because you need to use your feet to stay upright. Sam Sneed used to remove his shoes in competition when he needed to find his swing. I recommend you try this on course and on the range.
